Rainy day soup
Is this rain coming or going? Yesterday was all about thunder and lightning and I had to brave it to my 7.30pm ‘Get Flexi’ class @ No.1 Awesome Street. So what to eat beforehand?  6pm is a bit early for dinner but thoughts of food while you’re trying to meditate and move is not cool. Hot soup it is.  This easy one was a Swede Carrot Laksa - never tried before but definitely...

The Sweet Stuff
Sjaniel: My default mode of bad habits is usually that of ‘sugar addict’.  I have spent almost a lifetime trying to overcome my cravings and passion for sugary things and have at least managed to say goodbye to shop bought, commercial sweets for the most part. There are so many different sugar ‘alternatives’ on the market today, but few are really good for us and almost...

Who put the wheat in buckwheat?
Because it doesn’t belong there…they’ve gone and misled us! Buckwheat is not a wheat!     It’s not even a cereal grain like spelt or kamute. Buckwheat is completely gluten free.  This highly nutritious seed, related to rhubarb, makes a better wholefood alternative to cereal grains. Rich in magnesium as well as flavonoids (these enhance Vit C and act as antioxidents)...

Easy sunflower seed dip
There are hundreds of variations of this dip to be had… and I want to try them all! This took 2 minutes and inspiration came from the fridge and cupboards….. What 1 x red pepper ( carrot/courgette/avocado all work well) 100g sunflower seeds ( any seeds, any nuts would do the job) 1 clove garlic (I want to try wild garlic next as its in season and divine) 1 inch fresh...

courgette spaghetti (courgetti!)
No not spaghetti with a courgette sauce.  Or even green spaghetti. This is a courgette that got spaghettied… Everyone loves this ridiculously quick salad….even those that say ‘I don’t like raw courgettes’ - they do when they try this….And it’s another reason to keep a jar or two of different dressings in the fridge because your meals come...

The 'diet' that is not a verb
‘Diets’ are not sustainable. They can make you miserable and there is a risk of creating a very long lasting negative impact on your mind, emotions and relationship with food. We’ve been sucked into a number of these fad diets in the past, easily done with the amount of money pumped into their marketing. It’s hard to walk the supermarket aisles without picking up the latest...

Nick's juicing guide
Could you eat this huge bowl of goodness in one go? You could always try and drink it…. At H&H we love to juice. With the fast pace of modern life we know that a fresh pressed juice is the quickest and easiest way to get a hit of goodness. Without boring you with endless nutrient and vitamin charts here are some basic benefits of juicing; 1)...

Easter bites
I’m sure if you have an egg-shaped mould or a bit more patience, you could make these Easter bites into Easter eggs, but at H&H we prefer to spend more time savouring our sweets than making them. These balls are pretty easy to make - the time consuming part is in the finish - dipped in dark chocolate if you have the time to wait for them to cool. As for the piped bow/butterfly, only...

Good friday lunch
Soup and a salad is one of our favourite meals.  Soup, because 1) it can be made in advance, 2) you can use whatever you have in the fridge, 3) if you use bone broth, as we always do, you are packing in even more goodness without taxing your body (quick to digest so no bloating). Salad, because 1) you can whip it together at a moments notice especially when you keep dressings on hand,  2)...

Tina Eats
A post inspired by Chloe’s cat Luna. Tina, originally called Tittenhead, has gone through twenty name variations over the past five years (including Tit) to land with this much more respectable name. She used to eat the big brand cat foods which included a heavy mix of grain, soy and strange ‘derivatives’ with very suspect...

Getting me some omega 3s
Smoked mackeral and cornichons from Leila’s grocery in Shoreditch, butterhead lettuce from Riverfords, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and the holy grail, a ripe avocado. Watch out for fish bones…and kittens
