My default mode of bad habits is usually that of ‘sugar addict’. I have spent almost a lifetime trying to overcome my cravings and passion for sugary things and have at least managed to say goodbye to shop bought, commercial sweets for the most part.
There are so many different sugar ‘alternatives’ on the market today, but few are really good for us and almost none are unrefined.
This thick reduced sap straight from the maple tree is a natural sweetner that hasn’t been chemically altered in order to make it edible. It’s sweeter than sugar and is nutrient rich including minerals such as thiamine, manganese, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and zinc. This means your body is absorbing the nutrients and not just getting an empty calorie fix.
We use maple syrup in our baking and desserts instead of the refined, coloured, bleached, altered sugar that most recipes call for, but we always aim to keep it minimal. It’s never a good idea to overdose on any kind of sugary food - not even fruit - but when you do have a sweet treat, make sure it’s something that your body can recognise as a food source.
Satisfy your body with a nutrient rich sweet rather than just commercial sugary sweets and you won’t be left craving more.
